We tried to switch to UpServe.1st issue is they have no hands-on demo available. You tell them what you have now, what your pain points are, what you want improved in switching to them and they swear they are better than what you have now..Pain points with current POS (Lavu)* Support very difficult to reach* Financial rounding.. (This one bugs me) Pay for an order in full, then look at it in closed orders and it may show the order overpaid or underpaid by a few pennies. A program that you depend on to run your business financials should always be consistent about the price.* Limited CC processing options and they seem to be a bit on the high side.* No communication. Company adds new features of changes existing features (ie check split) but does not tell it’s customers about the changes.Tried switching to Upserve and hit a few major obstacles…* Could not get through to support. This was an issue I had with current POS and UpServe was as bad or worse. They claimed it was not normal and was due to COVID.* Font on Kitchen printer was smaller and our kitchen staff could not easily read it. Contacted UpServe and they responded that many customers had this requested ability to enlarge the font but they were not doing anything about it at this time.* Check split – This was the deal killer. We get large groups (Near a college) and sometimes they decide to all get their own checks… Once a tables check has been split, you have to open EACH INDIVIDUAL ticket from the table to see the contents… Our current system lets us just scroll the screen and see full tickets for every order on that table. Makes it SO much easier to manage. Contacted UpServe support and was told there were no plans to add that type of enhancement. When I responded that we could not go live with UpServe because it would hinder our productivity compared to our current system and even reminded them that I had offered to put them in my system so they could look it over and ensure their system did everything ours did plus more…. they threatened to force us to pay 2yrs of fees AND the revenue they would have made in CC transactions to get out of our contract. Not the way I expect to be treated by a reputable company, ESPECIALLY during a Pandemic!Run AWAY from this company! They will promise the world, but they don’t actually deliver.

    Hello Matt,

Thanks for your post on this POS. I am super confused between Upserve POS and Toast POS. I have had demos from both and both the HW and SW pricing are in the same ballpark range. I am looking for POS system for a full-service restaurant with wait-staff and a small bar (serving, non-sit down bar). Few things I like in Upserve are :Reporting, Employee Scheduling, Inventory mgmt all included. Toast seems more universal and/or common place than upserve.

Can you help me decide? I am not asking you to choose one over the other for me, since that will not be fair, but may be if you can help with some more insights, feedback that can help me decide?

    Hello!
The good news is you’ve narrowed in on 2 excellent restaurant POS systems and you really can’t go wrong. Upserve may be a touch cheaper if its Core package has everything you’re looking for and it’s available on both Android and iOS devices whereas Toast is only offered on Android. However, if you’re interested in implementing contactless payments or tableside ordering for your servers, we really like Toast’s hardware options. Hope that helps!

System works ok but customer service is terrible and fees are very expensive. Monthly charges and cost of credit card processing are higher than most POS’s. If you have any issues, getting through to customer service is hard and the response is slow to nonexistent.

    Upserve:
    It minimizes errors in operations.
It provides greater flexibility with anywhere, anytime access.
    It reduces duplicate data entry.
Easy access to the back end.
User friendly for both administrators and basic every day users.
    Great customer service.

Breadcrumb/Upserve has been a wonderful POS platform, and I would highly recommend it! Extremely user-friendly, easy to edit, update, and program. The analytics from reporting are extremely helpful in evaluating financials. Customer service has always been prompt and friendly, in the rare events that we have needed to contact them.

Set up was not as expected, this is pretty much a buy the equipment and software and do it yourself approach. New business was open two days before I realized that they didn’t have the sales tax set up. They were responsible for the menu and I was told the taxes. Anyway, cost the business several hundred dollars. Then this glitch that caused us to go into offline mode for hours and still not running. We lost even more as even on a single iPad we were not able to capture credit cards in offline mode as indicated. Unfortunately we were not prepared for this and had to just comp meals for those that did not have cash, then close the business 3 hours early. Lost some local customers for sure. Headed to Office Supply in the morning for order pads and some square modules so we can open, take credit card payments and run business.
