Write for Texas is making an impact, and making headlines. ABC News 7 (Amarillo)’s education segment featured project participants in the Region 16 area. Andrea DeCarlo, teacher at Dumas High School; Nikole Foote, Instructional Coach; and Cassie Swan, program contact at ESC 16 describe the positive impact Write for Texas has had on student writing.
These educators report that students are less afraid to put their ideas into written form – a very common issue in the past. “We are seeing kids actually put their thought process in to writing now in math, science and social studies and not just English,” notes Ms. Foote. Writing in all subject areas and using supports like sentence stems and other techniques promoted by Write for Texas are all part of an effort to “make sure all of our kids can write for life,” says Ms. Swan.
