Business credit cards with no personal guarantee

Business credit cards without a personal guarantee can be hard to obtain.

Personal guarantee requirements mean that when you apply for a business credit card, you’ll be required to share your personal information, and your personal credit will be hit with a hard inquiry that can affect your credit score. Moreover, providing a personal guarantee for a business credit card means you commit to personally covering your business liability.

Is looking for a business credit card with no PG worth it?

While many issuers won’t offer business credit cards without the financial security a personal guarantee provides, you can find a few options that don’t require a personal guarantee. We’ll detail the best of these cards in this guide.

Small-to-mid-sized businesses (exact requirements not disclosed)

Pros

  • No personal guarantee
  • Flexible rewards scheme and payoff frequency
  • Built-in budget management tools + mobile app
  • No annual or employee card fees

Cons

  • Foreign transaction and late payment fees
  • Limited rewards redemption options

Divvy is all about flexibility. With Divvy, you can choose to make your repayments weekly, twice a month, or once a month, with your rewards scheme depending on the frequency of your repayments. And like several other cards on this list, Divvy offers automatic expense reporting features.

Additionally, Divvy lets you manage your company's spending by setting budgets by team, project, event, or any other category. You can also set employee spending limits and view and edit budgets in real-time & share them via the web or Divvy's mobile app.

Divvy Rewards

Divvy offers a flexible rewards structure that lets you earn rewards faster by paying off your balance more frequently. You’ll earn points by using your Divvy card for purchases in three categories: restaurants, hotels, and recurring software subscriptions. Pay weekly, and you can earn up to 7x points on restaurants, for example, with that rate dropping to 4x if you pay twice a month and 2x if you pay monthly. Redeem points for travel, gift cards, a statement credit, or cash back at a rate of 1 cent per point for travel and about a half-cent per point on everything else.

Divvy also offers discounts and credits on purchases with partners such as Amazon Web Services, Google Ads, FedEx Office, and Costco.

Divvy Eligibility Requirements

Divvy now accepts all business types, from sole proprietorships to corporations to LLCs, although its website doesn’t disclose this. Beyond requiring applicants to have a US bank account and EIN, Divvy is nontransparent about its eligibility requirements — the one requirement it discloses is that most applying businesses must have at least $20K in an active account. You’ll need to reach out to Divvy for more information.

Divvy does disclose that international companies may apply so long as at least one owner with a 25% or higher stake is a US citizen.

  • You want a corporate card that lets you choose your repayment schedule
  • You spend a lot at restaurants and want a card that rewards this

4. Revenued: Best Flat Rewards Rate Card With No Personal Guarantee

Revenued Business Card

Visit Site

Annual Fee

$0

Minimum Recommended Credit

N/A

Rewards Rate

3% cash back on eligible purchases

Pros

  • No personal guarantee or credit check
  • Unlimited 3% cash back on all purchases
  • No annual fee

Cons

  • Factoring costs can be high
  • Can’t build your credit with card use

Revenued's Business Card is not technically a business credit card. Rather, it is a prepaid spending card tied to your future business revenue. You'll get a flexible line of credit, with your future sales being your collateral. Because of this, Revenued offers its services with no personal guarantee or credit score requirements -- in fact, your credit won't be checked at all.

Instead of charging you interest on charges made to your business line of credit, Revenued relies on factoring -- essentially, you are borrowing against future revenue via invoices. Instead of paying interest on what you borrow, you'll pay a fixed factor rate. Our explainer piece on invoice factoring further details this process. I'd also recommend looking at our merchant cash advance calculator to understand what different factor rates mean in terms of your borrowing costs.

Revenued Rewards

If your business spending is varied and diffuse, you’ll love Revenued’s flat 3% cash back rate on all eligible purchases — an exceptional rate for any small business credit card, much less one that doesn’t sport any credit score requirements.

While Revenued doesn’t offer any additional partner discounts, it does offer a generous welcome offer: $500 cash back after you spend $5,000+ within three months of getting your card.

Revenued Eligibility Requirements

Though Revenued doesn’t have any credit score requirements and does not require a personal guarantee, its eligibility requirements will prevent brand-new startups and businesses without significant monthly revenue from qualifying. Here is Revenued’s list of eligibility requirements:

  • Your business must be US-based
  • You must have 6+ months of business history
  • You must have a business bank account and maintain a positive account balance (an average daily balance of $1K+ is preferred)
  • You must maintain a monthly revenue of $10K+

When To Choose Revenued

  • Your business spending is varied, and you want a spending card that handsomely rewards all your business purchases
  • Your business suffers from uneven cash flow, and you want a spending card that helps to even out your cash flow
  • You want a spending card with no personal guarantee and a nice welcome offer -- most of these other cards don't have a welcome offer

Coast

Visit Site

Pros

  • No personal guarantee
  • Can be used at any gas station/truck stop
  • Spend controls + expense tracking
  • No hidden fees

Cons

  • Limited rewards
  • $3 monthly fee per active card

Unlike the cards listed above, the Coast card is a fleet card -- a specialized payment instrument that helps trucking businesses save money on the cost of fuel and maintenance while monitoring employee spending. If fuel costs are a major part of your business expenses, the Coast card may help you run your business more efficiently.

While many gas credit cards are specific to certain brands of gas stations, the Coast fleet card can be used at fuel stations nationwide and does not require a personal guarantee.

Coast Card Rewards

Coast can be a good credit card for businesses operating fleets of vehicles in need of a business credit card with no personal guarantee. However, you won’t receive overwhelming rewards when you choose this card.

You’ll receive a discount of 2 cents per gallon of fuel purchased with the Coast card. You’ll also get access to a number of Coast partner benefits, such as a 10% discount on maintenance & oil changes at Jiffy Lube and a 30% discount on QuickBooks products for 6 months.

Coast Card Eligibility Requirements

Coast is available for US-based businesses that operate fleets of vehicles. There is no minimum or maximum number of vehicles, but qualifying businesses need to be structured as partnerships, corporations, or LLCs. Sole proprietorships are not eligible.

Employee cards are available. Coast charges a fee of $3 per active card. This fee is charged only to cards that have a completed transaction during the billing period.

When To Choose The Coast Card

  • You run a trucking business and you want a fleet fuel card with no personal guarantee
  • You run a non-trucking business with significant driving needs and you want a card that helps your business save on the cost of fuel
  • You want a fleet fuel card that doesn't limit you to certain gas station chains

6. Brex Card: Best Cash Back Card With No Personal Guarantee

Brex

Apply Now

Pros

  • No personal guarantee
  • High rewards rates + strong benefits
  • Instant revenue from connected eCommerce platforms
  • Flexible credit limit

Cons

  • Strict eligibility requirements
  • Exclusivity requirements
  • Available only for US businesses

The Brex corporate card offers the highest rewards rates of all the cards on this list, but only if you make this card your only business credit card and pay off your balance daily. Some companies will qualify for monthly repayments, but your rewards rate will be slightly lower.

Make Brex your exclusive corporate card, and you'll earn up to 8x points per dollar spent, with a minimum of 1x earning on every purchase. Use your points to pay for travel expenses, redeem them for gift cards, or take them back in cold, hard cash. You'll also get access to spend management, automated bill pay, partner rewards, a mobile app, and much more.

Brex Rewards

The Brex card features a rewards scheme with 8x points for ridesharing apps and taxis, 5x on travel, 4x at restaurants, 3x on recurring software, 3x on Apple products, and 1x on everything else.

To earn points at these rates, you’ll need to pay off your Brex card daily and use Brex as your only corporate card. If you pay monthly, your rewards rate will be 1x lower for each category (7x on rideshares, 4x on travel, etc.). And if you don’t qualify for the exclusive program, you’ll just earn an unlimited 1 point per dollar spent.

Additional rewards options are available for tech, science, and remote companies.

Brex Eligibility Requirements

The Brex corporate card for startups has stringent eligibility requirements, meaning that not every would-be Brex user will be able to qualify.

Brex is available only for C-corps, S-corps, LLCs, or LLPs organized and registered in the US. Additionally, your business will need to meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Received an equity investment of any amount (accelerator, angel, VC, or web3 token) or plan to in the near future
  • Earn more than $1 million/year in revenue
  • Have more than 50 employees
  • Have more than $500K in cash
  • Be a tech startup that is on a path to meeting the criteria above, and is referred by an existing customer or partner

When To Choose Brex

  • You want the highest available rewards rates for a corporate card and are willing to make Brex your exclusive business credit card
  • Your business spends a lot on rideshares
  • You want a card with multiple rewards redemption options
  • You want a corporate card with spend management, bill pay, and a mobile app

Why We Don't Recommend These Credit Card Options

Occasionally, we encounter noteworthy product options, even if they don’t merit inclusion in our best-of lists. Here are some options we researched and decided to leave off this list:

SVB Innovators Card

The Silicon Valley Bank Innovators Card was a credit card designed to support startups and help them grow. With no PG requirement and 2x points on all purchases, the SVB Innovators Card was one of the better no PG credit card options for startups. Of course, this was before Silicon Valley Bank’s historic collapse, the ramifications of which continue to be felt throughout the global economy.

Though the bank still exists in the form of Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, N.A. (a newly-created FDIC-operated “bridge bank”), trying to get a credit card from this institution is not something we would recommend at this time, to put it mildly.

Sam’s Club Business Mastercard

If you’re already a Sam’s Club warehouse store member or don’t mind shelling out $45 to become one, you might be offered a Sam’s Club Business Mastercard. Although some users can access this business credit card without a personal guarantee, it’s difficult to waive the PG. Unless your business has at least $5 million in annual revenue, a minimum of two years of operating history, and more than ten employees, you will not be eligible for this card unless you’re willing to sign a PG.

Shell Small Business Card

You may have heard about Shell’s small business card, with its fuel rebates and its lack of a PG requirement. However, this card can be used only for vehicle-related expenses and only at two types of vendors: Shell gas stations and Jiffy Lube. If you’re looking for a business credit card with no personal guarantee and regularly have business expenses with those two businesses, this card definitely is worth looking into.

Office Depot/OfficeMax Business Credit Card

This business credit card lets you make purchases at Office Depot and OfficeMax stores, both in-person and online. This card doesn’t require a personal guarantee for all users. However, if you want to avoid the PG with this card, you’ll need at least three years of business history and a minimum of $5 million in annual sales. If your business is at that size, you likely can qualify for a corporate card, such as Ramp or Brex, that offers rewards.

The Office Depot/OfficeMax Business Credit card does provide some special financing terms on purchases over $299 but does not offer any cash-back or points rewards for your spending.

What Is A Personal Guarantee?

A personal guarantee on a business credit card is a legally binding agreement to repay credit issued to the business with your personal assets if the business cannot pay off the debt. You will be held personally liable for your business credit card balance if the business closes or defaults. By the way, know that in this article, we’ll be shortening “personal guarantee” to “PG” on occasion.

It’s easy to see why credit card companies require personal guarantees. It’s equally easy to see why a business owner might want to steer clear of them. Fortunately, if you’re looking for business credit cards with no personal guarantee, you have some good options. We’ll be exploring these no personal guarantee credit cards in a moment. But first, let’s go over the pros and cons of these cards from a business perspective.

The Advantages Of A No PG Business Credit Card

  • If your business fails and you can’t pay off your balance, the credit card issuer can’t seize your personal assets
  • Many credit cards that lack a PG are corporate credit cards, which typically give you features like spend management and business software integrations
  • Some of these cards don’t even check your personal credit when you apply, instead relying on other metrics

The Disadvantages Of A No PG Business Credit Card

  • Many business credit cards with no PG require your business to be a corporation or LLC — non-incorporated businesses will have a smaller set of options
  • Some business credit cards with no PG have high cash-on-hand requirements and are difficult for startups to obtain
  • Since most business credit cards require a PG, it may be hard to find a credit card that doesn’t require a PG and offers a rewards-earning structure that fits your business spending
  • Some business credit cards without a PG will initially require you to make daily repayments

How Easy Is It To Get A Business Credit Card With No Personal Guarantee?

Business credit cards that don’t require a personal guarantee are difficult to qualify for. These cards are generally reserved for larger businesses with an established credit history. As such, the average small business owner won’t be able to apply successfully for a credit card with no personal guarantee.

Credit cards without a personal guarantee are frequently found in a category known as corporate credit cards. With this in mind, once your business is large enough, with a certain number of employees or a high enough revenue stream, you may be able to sign up for a corporate credit card. These cards typically free you from personal guarantees and include perks such as improved expense reporting and easier access to flexible credit lines.

How To Get Business Credit Cards Without A Personal Guarantee

For most small business owners, getting a company credit card without a personal guarantee probably won’t be a walk in the park. Many business credit cards on the market require some personal guarantee. But the relative lack of options without a personal guarantee doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

What You Need To Apply For A No Personal Guarantee Card

The Small Business Association says that about one-third of businesses with employees will fail within their first two years. So it’s no surprise that credit card issuers are leery of extending credit to small businesses with no proven track record. This is why most issuers of business credit cards require a personal guarantee in the first place.

Generally speaking, business credit cards that don’t require a personal guarantee come in three forms:

  • Corporate credit cards (like Brex)
  • Specialized startup credit cards (like the no-longer-offered SVB Innovators card)
  • Fleet cards (like Coast)

Now, these three credit card types target different markets — corporate cards target sizable corporations (and, in the case of Brex, tech startups vouched for by an existing Brex customer or partner), startup credit cards target startups more generally, and fleet cards target trucking businesses.

However, no matter which of these no personal guarantee credit cards you’re trying to get, the card issuer needs some form of assurance that you’ll be able to pay for the purchases you make with said card. To that end, the following three factors can provide card issuers with this reassurance and improve your chances of being approved:

Financial Stability

Your business will need to be financially stable. For example, the Brex card we list below may require that you earn at least $1 million per year or have at least $500,000 in the bank. Other corporate cards without personal guarantees may have similar or even stricter requirements, such as over $1 million in annual revenue.

Consistent Spending Patterns

Beyond your business’s stability factor, you may also need to demonstrate consistent spending patterns and an otherwise healthy financial history. If you want to go the corporate card route, you probably aren’t eligible if your business is a sole proprietorship or otherwise not registered as an S-corp, C-corp, or LLC.

Funding Sources

Startups face particular challenges in getting a business credit card without a personal guarantee, as they don’t have a significant history that demonstrates their financial stability or spending patterns. That’s why it’s important for startups to demonstrate that they have the funding necessary to survive and grow. If you have equity investors from an accelerator program or an angel/VC investor, this will help you immensely.

Choosing The Right No PG Credit Card For Your Business

The reality is that most business credit card issuers require you to sign a personal guarantee when you apply. This means that if you must have a business credit card with no PG, your options will be limited, making it all the more important that you find the card that makes sense for your business needs.

First off, many credit cards that don’t require a personal guarantee are, in fact, corporate cards. If your business is not a corporation or LLC, don’t waste your time applying for a corporate card unless you can confirm beforehand that your business is eligible for the card in question. Additionally, corporate cards often have stringent eligibility requirements, so if, say, your business can’t meet the cash-on-hand requirements, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Additionally, when restricting your business credit card search to cards with no PG, it may be harder for you to find a card with a spending rewards program that matches your business spending.

If your business spending is varied and a flat-rate rewards card fits your needs, you’ll have several good options to choose from, but if you’re looking for great travel rewards & perks, your search may be more challenging, and you may have to moderate your expectations a bit.

Don’t Qualify For A Card Without A Personal Guarantee? Your Next Best Options

Many business credit cards that don’t require a PG will have stringent qualification criteria. If you can’t find a business credit card that doesn’t require a PG and which sports eligibility requirements you can meet, you might look for a secured credit card instead. Since these cards require you to post a security deposit, they are relatively easy to obtain.

You might also consider one of our top business credit cards for borrowers with bad credit if your credit score is a limiting factor in your search for a business credit card.

Finally, if you qualify for a corporate credit card and are determined to get one, know that although the requirements may be tough to meet, you’ll also get benefits not commonly offered by normal business credit cards, such as custom spend management, integrations with time tracking & accounting software, and other exclusive business perks. If you decide to go this route, we have some tips on getting a corporate credit card that can help you succeed.

FAQs: No Personal Guarantee Credit Cards

Do all business credit cards require a personal guarantee?

Almost all business credit cards require a personal guarantee. When you sign a personal guarantee, you agree to be personally responsible for any debt the business takes on. However, a few credit cards, such as those listed in this article, and many corporate cards do not require a personal guarantee.

What is the easiest business credit card to get?

The easiest business credit card to get will depend on your credit history, business revenue, and other factors. Generally speaking, secured business credit cards are the easiest to get, even if you have bad credit or no credit history. That’s because your credit limit will be equal to the amount you deposit with the credit card issuer, and the issuer will have that collateral if you don’t repay your debt.

How can I open a business credit card without personal credit?

You can open a business credit card without personal credit in two ways. First, you can apply for a business credit card that does not require a personal credit check or guarantee. Second, you can apply for a secured business credit card, which requires you to make a deposit that will equal your credit limit. As you use your business credit card responsibly, your credit profile will grow, and you may be able to apply for a different kind of business credit card.

What credit score is needed for a business credit card?

Most credit card issuers will look for a credit score of 600 or above. However, people with lower scores might qualify for a secured business credit card or another card designed for borrowers with poor credit.

Can you get a business credit card with bad personal credit?

Yes, you can get a business credit card with bad personal credit. One option is to apply for a secured business credit card with a credit limit equal to the amount of money you deposit into a secured account. You won’t be able to withdraw that money while your card is active, but over time, you’ll repair your credit and be able to apply for different types of business credit cards. You can also apply for a business credit card for a particular store, such as Office Depot/Office Max, or a gas station, such as the Shell card. Using these types of cards responsibly can help you build your credit profile.

Are you personally liable for business credit cards?

You will be personally liable for business credit card balances if you sign a legally binding personal guarantee when you apply for the card. Should the company go out of business or default on the debt, you will have to pay off the balance on the card. You can find a few business credit cards that do not require a personal credit card, or you can apply for a corporate card if you can meet eligibility requirements.

Can you get a business credit card without a personal guarantee?

Yes. If you’re looking for a business credit card that won’t require a personal guarantee, you have several options, ranging from specialized business charge cards, corporate credit cards like Brex, and fleet fuel cards like the Coast card.

What's the benefit of getting a no personal guarantee business credit card?

The main benefit of getting a business credit card that doesn’t require a personal guarantee is that in the event that you can’t pay off your card, your personal assets cannot be seized to pay the debt.

Of course, in such a scenario, your business assets can, in fact, be seized.

If I have a business credit card with no personal guarantee and I can't pay the balance, are my assets safe?

If you did not sign a personal guarantee when applying for your credit card and you can’t pay your balance later on, your personal assets will be safe from being seized. However, your business assets may still be seized.
